How to fix Mosquito Net using Hook and Loop gum tape

Grey Fiberglass Mosquito Net fixed to a ventilator using Hook and Loop tape

Wondering how to fix a Mosquito Net to your windows, ventilators or doors using Hook and Loop tape? Keep calm and follow the steps below.

What you’ll need:

  1. Mosquito Net of enough size for your requirements
  2. Regular Loop tape in a colour that complements your mosquito net colour. For example, black hook tape for grey mosquito nets and white for ivory nets
  3. Adhesive Hook tape in the same colour as your hook tape
  4. Measuring Tape
  5. Scissors
  6. Sewing equipment: Thread and needle or a sewing machine
  7. [Optional] Stapler Gun or Screws & Screw driver

Once you have all the materials, it’s time to get to work.

  1. Measure the length and breadth of all the windows (or doors or ventilators) to which you’d like to fix the mosquito net using a measuring tape and note down the measurements.
    • We recommend that you subtract 0.5 inches or 12 mm from the total measurements for ease of use.
  1. Lay the mosquito net on a flat surface ensuring that there are no wrinkles.
  2. Mark the length and breadth measurements you’ve noted down in step 1 on the mosquito net using a chalk or a marker.
  3. Join the markings. Check that you have grids of the same size as your windows on the net.
  4. Cut the mosquito net carefully along the grid lines.
  1. Take one of the pieces that you cut in step 2.
  2. On all the edges of the mosquito net piece, stitch the loop tape ensuring that the edges of the tape and the net align perfectly.
  3. Repeat 1 & 2 for all the other pieces.
  1. For one window, cut two pieces of the Adhesive Hook tape according to its length and two pieces according to its breadth.
  2. Take one of the pieces, peel off the paper and carefully stick it onto your window (or door or ventilator) frame. Alternatively, you could also remove the paper as you stick the tape on to the frame
    • If you subtracted 0.5 inches or 12 mm from the total measurements in step 1, ensure that you leave 0.25 inches or 6 mm gap from the edge of the window frame to the edge of the Adhesive Hook tape.
    • Make sure that you stick it correctly in the first try. Removing and re-applying the tape will result in a loss of grip.
  3. Repeat 2 for the other pieces of the tape you cut for the current window.
    • For additional grip, we recommend that you staple or screw in the corners especially if you will be removing the mosquito net regularly for cleaning.
  4. Repeat 1 – 3 for the rest of the windows  (or doors or ventilators).
  1. Pick a window and the corresponding mosquito net piece stitched with loop tape.
  2. Carefully attach the loop tape onto the hook tape  that you stuck to the window frame in step 4.
  3. Repeat 1 & 2 for the remaining windows.

That’s it. You’ve successfully mosquito proofed your windows.
